Barangay Madaum, Tagum City & Barangay Tambo, Island Garden City of Samal --- Multiple resource-use conflicts abound in coastal areas resulting to over-utilization and rapid depletion of resources in these areas . To address this issue, the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte through the Office of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources held a series 4-day training-workshop on Coastal Land Use and Zoning last July 23-26 and August 13-16, 2019 at Heroben-Hometel, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
This activity provided the participants the ability to identify appropriate resource use for the Davao del Norte coastal area and develop strategies for the management of each zone though participative and multi-sectoral planning and plan implementation, updating of the coastal resource profile of the delineated zones through the Geographic Information System (GIS) and develop appropriate plan for each management zone.
The training-workshop was attended by technical personnel coming from the Environment and Natural Resources Office, Agriculture Office, Disaster Risk and Resilient Management Office, and Planning and Development Office of the City of Tagum, Panabo City, Island Garden City of Samal and the Municipality of Carmen and one representative from a local fisher folk.
The participants sought the importance of GIS as a support tool in the coastal land use and zoning and in regular mapping activities and decision-making in their respective LGUs.
This activity is pursuant to Environmental Sustainability goals of Kuya Gov Edwin Jubahib.
